Hello Family!

First of all, Happy Birthday Dad!! Hope it’s a fabulous one!

It was great to talk to y’all yesterday! One thing I meant to ask about was when Jeff goes to England? Honestly, most of the call home yesterday just seems like a blur. Anyway, it was great as always. We had an ok week here in College Station. It has been pretty hectic for all the students with finals and everything, so it’s also been kinda hard to meet with them. We found a new investigator this week. His name is Robert. We met with him at a Panda Express and taught him a little about the importance of coming to church. We didn’t teach him about the Restoration because it wasn’t exactly the ideal setting for teaching someone. We’ll be meeting with him this Wednesday though, so we’re excited about that.

Yesterday, right after skyping, we had a lesson with an investigator named Jeremy (his real name is Yizhen. He’s Chinese). He’s been investigating for a long time. He’s had several baptismal dates. The lesson we had with him last night went well. We taught something we learned in zone conference this past week. We learned how to effectively teach people about why God has given us commandments. Through a series of awesome scriptures that eventually leads to 2 Nephi 2:27, we help people realize that we have 2 things to choose from in this life: Liberty and Captivity. Satan seeks to bind us into captivity. In that scripture it tells us that we can choose liberty through the Great Mediator, Jesus Christ, and then in vs 28 we learn what God has given us so that we can choose liberty. It says we must "look unto the great Mediator, and hearken unto his great commandments" The Lord has blessed us with commandments because that is how we choose liberty. Some ways that Satan binds us into captivity are: drugs, pornography, money, work, the list could go on and on. Well, the Lord has given The Word of Wisdom, the Law of Chastity, the Law of Tithing, and the law of the Sabbath day to combat those. As we keep these commandments, we AVOID becoming captive to those dangers and we are LIBERATED from any captivity that we were in. I’m so grateful that we have a Heavenly Father that gives us commandments. He doesn’t give them to us to restrict us, or simply for us to praise him, but he gives them to us so that we can be FREE.

Anyway, we taught this to Jeremy and related to how baptism is a commandment. We all felt the Spirit and he agreed to be baptized if he feels that it’s what God wants him  to do. We currently have a baptismal date for June 6. Hopefully helping him understand the WHY of the commandments and commitments we leave with him will help him to keep them. In other news, the sisters here in the College Station 2nd ward had 2 baptisms this past weekend. They’re on fire and we need to catch up with them. Finals for A&M ends tomorrow and finals for Blinn ends on Friday so we’ll be able to meet with some people more often, and there will also be tons of people leaving. It’s also getting pretty hot and humid! One last summer. haha. Anyway, I love you all so much, thanks for the love and support you have shown me and will continue to show. Have a great week!

Hello All,

Life is busy but it’s good! We had a lot of meetings this week. We drove down to Houston for Mission Leadership Council, interviews and training on Thursday, and Zone Meeting on Friday. Interviews went well. There are some new goals that I’ve set that will help me as I have this new calling and as I come to the final stages of my mission. A lot of what was talked about in my interview was about finding greater trust and confidence in the Lord. President Mortensen and I counseled about ways I could do that and there’s already been some results in this past week.

So… everything is just a blur. I know a lot of stuff happened this week but I can’t really remember any of it. Oh! we started teaching someone new in the CS2 ward. His name is Kenneth. The sisters were teaching him before they both went home and we met with him this past week. Our first lesson went ok. Then, our second lesson that we had with him this week we were able to help him understand more about the need of a Restoration and the role of the Book of Mormon. It was a really great lesson. He’s having a lot of challenges with his marriage and we are planning on talking about eternal families and God’s purpose for families here in the near future.

The Traditions YSA sisters had a baptism this past week and the zone is also doing really well. We don’t currently have any progressing investigators right now, but we will soon. I love serving here in College Station. It’s the best. Anyway, love you all! Have a great week! Talk to you on Sunday! Happy Mother’s Day Mom! You’re the best :)

Hello All!

I do not have much time to write today, so I’ll have to keep this pretty short. The biggest highlight of the week was Naveen’s baptism on Saturday! It was an awesome service! He also seemed to really have enjoyed it. Naveen is so awesome! He was confirmed yesterday and bore his testimony. Sadly we had to miss both because we were in a meeting for the College Station 2nd ward. I heard it went well though.

One of the members in the YSA ward brought someone to church yesterday and he really enjoyed it. He participated in Gospel Principles class and we will be meeting with him on Wednesday. We’re excited for that! Brent’s sister is in the CS3 ward and I was talking to the elders that serve there and she said that she was talking to them about me and how she used to babysit me. I’ll prolly run into her sometime.

Elder Schinn and I are trying to improve our finding by teaching when we find on campus. Instead of just getting phone numbers and what not we want to start teaching then and there. Hopefully it’ll improve our finding. Anyway, College Station is awesome. It’s lots of fun! Love you all. Have a great week!

Hello everyone!

We had a good week here in College Station! Naveen is still doing well. He is scheduled to be baptized this Saturday! We’re stoked. We had two really great lessons on Saturday with investigators named Lei and Jeremy. They are both Chinese. We were really bold with them and were able to understand some of their concerns. Both lessons were powerful and they both accepted a baptismal date of May 9th, but then they didn’t come to church. Arggghh. So frustrating. haha.

In the College Station 2nd ward we have 1 investigator named Chris that is progressing. He’s 61 years old and he’s really smart! The lessons go really well and he feels the spirit. He knows what he needs to do and we’re doing our best to help him do it. He came to church yesterday and seemed to enjoy it. There’s also a family that was recently baptized in the 2nd ward and we are meeting with the husband, Paul, on Friday. He hasn’t been baptized but he’s been coming to church. We’re really excited about that.

College Station is such a cool city! It actually reminds me a lot of Provo. There’s a really cool feel here. I also really enjoy working with and going to institute, it’s the bomb! Anyway, I don’t have much more time, but I want you to know I’m doing great and love you all! Have a great week :)

This is one of our investigators named Lei. He's Chinese. The Elder on the right is the bishops son, he's home from Taiwan to get surgery on his wrists and the stake president didn't want to release him. He's been helping us out.

I have nightmares every night.

Hello everyone!

First of all, congrats to Chelsea and Brian for the new born!! Paxton, huh? That's a sweet name. Woo! So exciting. Well, this has been quite a busy week. I am now in a new area. My area is (drum roll) College Station! I'm covering the Traditions YSA ward and most of our finding is spent on the Texas A&M campus. It's so awesome! We are also covering the College Station 2nd ward since so many missionaries have gone home. We will be plenty busy. The weirdest part of all is that I was called to be a zone leader. Eh. Not too sure about that but I'll just do my best. I was never even a District Leader. Maybe President's revelation machine is broken. haha.

Well, we had 11 lessons this past week. Obviously there's no way I can talk about each person and all the stuff that went down. We have one investigator, Naveen, that has a baptismal date for the 24th. We just have to teach him all the commandments and what not. He is awesome.

So for finding we go to the campus and just talk to everyone. The institute building is right off campus so we talk to people about activities, institute, church, whatever! I was pretty nervous the first time going finding on campus. College kids? I figured they'd be the last people to give missionaries the time of day. Well, surprisingly, lots of people listen to us. It's really fun! Things will slow down here in the next few weeks because the semester is ending but it still should be pretty hoppin.

My new companion is Elder Schinn. He's been out 1 transfer longer than me. He's Korean and he's awesome! We have pretty similar sense of humor. I just look at him and start busting up! He's also a great teacher. I'm really excited for this transfer. Well, I gotta run. I love you all and hope you have a great week!

love,
Elder Steed

.Saying goodbye to Brother Young!

Elder Strickland going home!

Elder Hunter and I at transfers. I swear, our IQ's lower everytime we're around each other. haha.

Elder Loulanting going home. We served down in Melbourne together. Love this guy!

Yeah, the allergies up here are bad.

 Kyle Field! Texas A&M baby!

 New companion. Elder Schinn. haha!

Hey everyone!

We had a good week! Spent some more time over at Johnny’s helping him with some projects. So there’s a less active family that the AP’s know that are polynesian and like volleyball. Well, the assistants made a deal with them that if a team of missionaries beat them in volleyball they’d have to come to church. haha. The game was on Wednesday and I was recruited onto the team. We played two games and we won the first 16-24 and the second 16-14. It was sick! I felt kinda outta place since everyone on both sides except me were Polynesian. Haha. it was hectic :)

On Friday we had dinner with a really wonderful older couple. They are Johnny’s neighbors and we’ve gotten to know them by doing stuff around their house for them. They were really grateful so they offered to feed us. It was an awesome visit and we got to share the new easter video with them. They really enjoyed it.

We spent a lot of time saying goodbye to people so there will be lots of pictures this week. In between sessions of conference yesterday we went over to see Jeffrey. Bro Martin and his 2 sons, Seth and Cole came with us. It was a pretty cool visit. Hopefully the missionaries coming in will be able to help him.

I really enjoyed conference! There were some really great talks! It’s so amazing that the Lord has blessed us throughout time with His prophets and Apostles to lead an incredibly confused world. It’s amazing that He would restore that foundation in our time. I know that these men are true prophets of God and receive revelation for us. Also, how cool was it to hear my former mission president, John C Pingree Jr called to be an area 70! Woooo!!

I really love this ward. So many great members and people. I will miss this area but I’m excited to see what’s next! I love you all and will be thinking of you :)

He got a hold of my camera. haha!

I asked to use the bathroom at an elderly couples house and this is what I saw. If you knew these two, this would make you laugh so hard.

Bro Reyes. He's a crack up!

That face. haha!

 Johnny Seaback! The man!

Saying goodbye to Johnny. This is at the end of the path we made with machetes in his backyard. I was also on exchanges that day with Elder Visser.

This is Peter! Apparently he isn't too happy I'm leaving. haha.

That's better.

 Brother Martin

Cole Martin. He got home from his mission at the end of February.

This is Jeffrey. Such a cool guy!

Elder Strickland and I with Jeffrey

The Martin family. Minus one at BYU and one in Paris on his mission.

This is Seth. He's preparing to go on his mission. He's gonna be awesome!

Hello Everyone,

This week was a rough one, but there were a couple of awesome miracles. I don’t have much time to write so I’ll have to keep it pretty short. On Saturday we had an appointment with Jeffrey. We’ve been bringing members to the lessons but none of them really clicked with him. We were trying to find someone to take with us but couldn’t think of anyone. So here we are, about half hour before the appointment, and we still have no one to take us, then BAM. Brother Banda came to mind. Brother Banda actually isn’t even in our ward. He lives in the boundaries but goes to a different ward, so I’ve never thought about taking him. Brother Banda is a 6 foot 10 about 400 pound monster. He’s covered in tatts and spent most of his life gang bangin. He’s the man. Anyway, so we bring him to the lesson and we ask Jeffrey how everything’s going. He just responds saying I don’t wanna talk about it. At this point we’re kinda freaking out because we didn’t really have a lesson plan, we just wanted to talk about how he’s doing. Luckily Brother Banda took over and shared his conversion story.

He was the perfect member to take because they have similar backgrounds. Brother Banda said after his first few meetings with the missionaries he was exactly where Jeffrey is now. He told him that he needs to make the first step. The Lord is trying to help him but he has to do his part, until then nothing will happen. So, we will see what happens. There’s no doubt we were lead to Jeffrey and have been inspired in meetings with him and in finding certain people to come with us. I guess now it’s up to him.

The other cool experience we were able to have was when we went home teaching with Brother Martin. We had a powerful lesson with a father who’s been really struggling and been less active since his 4 year old son died last May. I don’t have time to explain it all but I know that the Plan of Salvation is real and we all live after this life. I hope you have a great week, love you all!

Hello everyone,

Hmmmm... This week was. Interesting. Tuesday was my birthday and I got an awesome package from home! Full of good stuff, especially mom's homemade cookies!! My birthday was a pretty normal day. The Griffith family signed up to feed us and they actually had a happy birthday cupcake for me for dessert. We also visited Johnny on Tuesday. We did some service for him around his house and then we noticed some neighbors across the street doing some gardening. They were a really old couple who were moving a huge pile of dirt into their backyard to spread out. The three of us went over there and Elder Strickland and I started doing it for them while Johnny basically bragged about us to them the whole time. It was pretty cool. I love unplanned service.

Sherry is still doing well. She is still reading. Were gonna have to do a better job on talking about the foundation of Christ's church. She is having a hard time understanding that Christ actually set up a church. But we'll get there. We haven't been able to get a hold of the rest of the people lately :(. However, tonight we are going over to a family's house who are good friends with the Martin family. They agreed to listen. Other than that the week was pretty bleh. I was kind of in a bad mood and let it get to me, but I'll be better this week! Well, that's most of what happened this week. Sorry there's not too much else to report on. Love you all!

Hello everyone,

Not too much to report on this week. We were able to meet with Sherry once this week. We brought a sister from the ward with us and they got along really well. We didn’t really get to talk about what we wanted to talk about because they hit it off so well, but that’s alright :). We are meeting with her again tonight so hopefully that’ll all go well.

We were able to teach Johnny the Restoration this week but the lesson did go so well. haha. I don’t think we prepared well enough. He is willing to read the Book of Mormon and wants to see if we can help him quit smoking. Johnny is the man. We helped him make some chili that was really good. We’re gonna invite him to the ward chili cook off on April 11.

We were able to see Mary again this week. We went over to her house to help install a curtain rod. She was really grateful. We said a prayer with her at the end and she seemed to have really felt something after it. We will be going back on Wednesday for a "make it or break it" lesson. Basically if she doesn’t seem willing to keep commitments after this visit we’ll have to stop visiting her. I hate dropping people. haha. It’s lame.

This past week I’ve been trying to rely on the Spirit and God’s help more than on myself. So often I worry about what I’m gonna say when I come across someone or when they open the door, or in a lesson I worry so much about what I’m gonna say. I think I’m slowly starting to get the hang of not worrying about it and just trusting the Lord. So far, contacting people has gone much better. It really is a hard thing to learn and it takes so much practice. Unfortunately for me it’s seemed to have taken about 18 months. haha. Anyway, I hope you all have a great week. Love you all!

-Elder Steed

 Elder Strickland. Lol.

I was trying to model pose. haha.

 This is so Texas. Lol.
